School Stories

Schools all around NZ are currently happily using Moodle in many different ways.

We want to hear from you all - Share your story or view stories below.

Introducing Moodle into Wellington College

School:

Since early 2006 our school has been using the Microsoft SharePoint Content Managing System with some success. However, finding it to have little interaction or flexibility, a handful of teachers (8-10) started using an offsite hosted Moodle installation in February this year (2009). Having used Moodle for the previous 2 years, I provided most of the training & support to these teachers.

Ross Intermediate in the Mood-le

School:

Ross Intermediate - Palmerston North - started using Moodle in 2009. Three special character classes (2 digital and a Literacy) use this as a learning Platform. We are delighted to network on here.

Decision on a LMS

School:

We were introduced to Moodle at the beginning of 2009 when a few teachers on the staff thought it would be useful to have an integrated LMS. This coincided with the Ministry Roadshow on LMSs which has been running for most of this year.

I decided to do a UC course on Best Practices in Online Teaching and Learning and this experience has given me insight into how to convert face-to-face teaching/learning content into online format.

Marlborough Boys' College

School:

Marlborough Boys’ and Marlborough Girls’  as part of  an ICTPD cluster have started exploring the use of Moodle. As of term two  2009, all  staff  and students have access to moodle.

Most LMs’s  were  investigated but ultimately the open source and freeware nature of Moodle  was  a major factor.  We also had the option of partnering with the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology via the local LOOP. For this we have David Sturrock  to thank - he was incredibly generous of his time and vision.

Moodle at EGGS

School:

For 10 years we have had an intranet initially crafted by a very talented “web chap” who created an exceedingly comprehensive and easy to use environment. Staff have only to drop files in a folder for them to be available to students both in and outside the school.

Moodle in the styx

School:

We have been using Moodle at KKC since 2005( hat tip to TBC for that). At that time we felt that the cost of any other solution for the amount it was going to be used meant there was no discussion. Moodle for us is free, we host it so it's nice and fast in school and we have our own video server as well so the links are fast. Since we are too far away for a loop keeping filesizes manageable is important to us.

Moodle at Albany Senior High School

School:

Why Use Moodle?
Moodle is at the centre of engaging teaching and learning programmes at New Zealand's newest (and open source) Senior High school.

Why we chose Moodle:
When looking at the kinds of online learning environments Albany Senior High School needed in order to deliver a curriculum for the 21st century, we knew that we wanted a wide range of powerful tools without being crippled by excessive software licensing costs. Our wish-list for our Learning Management System included:

Our School Moodle Journey

School:

We've created a video about our School Moodle use... Our school is in North Christchurch and we love Moodle, even using it for our school web site.
We have over 1000 students so needed a robust solution and found one - Moodle.  Happy viewing!
